This is the last blog from the People’s Cathedral Project.
In August 2017 the People’s Cathedral Project drew to a close with the contractors and project staff departing. During the initiative over 90 events were held, engaging over 10,000 people. Activities varied from coffee concerts to star gazing and helped the Cathedral to widen and deepen its connection to the local community.
Although the project is now complete, the story of the People’s Cathedral Project continues. A programme of Coffee Concerts, Study Days and Family Fun is in place for 2017/2018 and a dedicated band of volunteers will continue to catalogue the archive and to conduct oral history interview, helping us to better understand the early days of Cathedral life.
Newly recruited volunteers will be promoting tower and guided tours as we seek to share our heritage with the wider community and a range of new leaflets will help people to explore the Cathedral. Our younger visitors can enjoy our explorer backpacks with torches, binoculars, colouring pencils and eye spy cards.
Although the project has finished, it is a really exciting time for the People’s Cathedral and marks a new chapter in the history of this remarkable building.
